This is our Organization and we are the ones it should serve.

This will be the only way in which we can transform our Organization into an increasingly efficient instrument in the service of peace and development.

We should recommit ourselves today to strengthen our Organization to fully empower it to discharge those noble objectives.

And yet I believe the Charter of our Organization, as it stands, offers a good basis for the understanding that we need.

The end of the East West conflict, long a factor of paralysis for our Organization, launched a new era.

Nigeria has followed with great interest and participated actively in the various proposals on the reform of our Organization, the United Nations.

Haiti wishes to reiterate its commitment to our Organization's ideals and principles, to universality and to the goals of peace and development through international cooperation.

No set of sound policies can be adopted in our Organization in the absence of concrete advances in peacebuilding.

Now, 60 years on, we have been called upon to show similar resolve by renewing our institution in a way that remains true to its founders' purpose.

Today, here, within our Organization, we must adopt and strengthen mechanisms and instruments to ensure the fulfilment of the commitments that have been adopted.

Our Organization must be the ultimate defender of the rule of international law, to which all States in the comity of nations must adhere.

These topics must have the same priority in our Organization's agenda as the challenges of ensuring lasting peace and of eradicating terrorism.

Allow me, on behalf of all the member States and observer States of the SCO, to extend our warmest congratulations on the sixtieth anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.

It is indeed only when we stand together on firm principle that we can effect real and meaningful change in our only truly international Organization, the United Nations.

My delegation is particularly pleased that the United Nations system, especially the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), responded promptly and in a manner that has done our Organization proud.

As we clamour for reform and renewal of our Organization, we should widen our horizons and undertake a sober and dispassionate reassessment of our policy towards the Republic of Taiwan.

We have assembled here to consider together in good faith how we should respond to the challenges of modern times and how our Organization should be adapted to the needs of the twenty first century.
