The election that brought Morsi to power gave a political voice for the first time to millions of people, many of them poor, uneducated, and religious.

At the other end of the spectrum are technocratic super defenders of regulatory bodies who believe that politicians and electorates are hopelessly confused, uneducated, and often corrupt.

But technology alone will not be enough. Regulators, hospitals, and drug safety authorities must take the lead, rather than placing the burden on often poor and uneducated citizens who are struggling to care for loved ones.
