Although many peace initiatives were put forward during the 1970s and 1980s in an attempt to address the Arab Israeli conflict, Syria objected to those initiatives only because the solutions they proposed lacked comprehensiveness and because they ignored participation by the Palestinians and lacked the guarantees that would safeguard their national rights.
