We cannot compromise the very basis of our membership in the Organization.

During our term on the Security Council, we actively worked towards that goal.

To this day we consider our membership a cornerstone of our national sovereignty.

We must rise above the dictates of narrow interests and work to benefit from the diverse perspectives of our membership.

In the past month we have joined the Organization of African Unity and, the Non Aligned Movement, and we have rejoined the Commonwealth.

During the period of our membership we advocated regular consultations and exchanges of views with regional groups and States concerned.

One example of Thailand apos s active participation in South South cooperation is our membership in Partners in Development a South South Initiative , which was formally established during the Conference and which has been particularly successful in the area of family planning.

We in India remain committed to the principle a principle to which we were consistently committed during our term in the Security Council that the gains made by aggression and by ethnic cleansing cannot be allowed to prevail in an eventual settlement.
