It's all grounded in the tenets of biology.

Not psychology, biology.

Perhaps the answer lies in our nature as purposive beings.

It is in a club where we let our hair down, freed of the ideological and patriarchal corset that dictates each and every allowed movement and expression according to the genitals.

Firstly because we're Egyptian and its our nature and secondly because we have so much to complain about.

But the fact that our moral intuitions are universal and part of our human nature does not mean that they are right.

Our nature may predispose us to learn but what we learn depends on how we are nurtured.

This is the vengeful side of our fawning, as though the humiliation of worshipping idols must be balanced by our delight in their downfall.

We can do this without blasphemy, because it is our own nature, not God, that is the source of our morality.

So there are grounds to believe that our improved reasoning abilities have enabled us to reduce the influence of those more impulsive elements of our nature that lead to violence.

Of course, empathy is not the only part of our inherited nature that shapes our behavior toward others. In fact, there is also a compelling evolutionary explanation for xenophobia.

Thus, the problem is not lack of knowledge, but the failure of our reason to master other, non rational aspects of our nature.

Indeed, at the core of Don Quixote is something essential that we knew even before we read it but which became part of our nature only after we completed its mesmerizing journey.

And now as we confront that shallowness and the failures that derive from our inability to get the depths of who we are, comes this revolution in consciousness these people in so many fields exploring the depth of our nature and coming away with this enchanted, this new humanism.

Because, if you don't know yet, everything that we use to define what human nature is comes from these storms, comes from these storms that roll over the hills and valleys of our brains and define our memories, our beliefs, our feelings, our plans for the future.

I've spent the last five years of my life thinking about situations exactly like this why we sometimes misunderstand the signs around us, and how we behave when that happens, and what all of this can tell us about human nature.

But the fact that our moral intuitions are universal and part of our human nature does not mean that they are right. On the contrary, these findings should make us more skeptical about relying on our intuitions.

So, in the opening days of 2009, a visionary president stood on the steps of the U.S. Capitol and said, We cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall someday pass, that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve, that, as the world grows smaller, our common humanity shall reveal itself.

In this respect, it is important for us to be aware of the universal set of moral intuitions so that we can reflect on them and, if we choose, act contrary to them. We can do this without blasphemy, because it is our own nature, not God, that is the source of our morality.
