I cannot fail to pay tribute to last year apos s Chairman, Ambassador Adolf Ritter von Wagner of Germany, who directed our work at the forty eighth session with such ability and deftness and who worked so hard on the rationalization of the work of the Committee.

The lion apos s share of the credit goes to Chairman of the Committee, His Excellency Ambassador Adolf Ritter Von Wagner, whose impeccable mastery of disarmament and international security issues and his well known diplomatic skills left their mark on the successful work of the Committee.

Mr. Ritter (Liechtenstein) I would like at the outset to apologize for the fact that Ambassador Wenaweser, the Permanent Representative of Liechtenstein, is unable to be here because he is attending a briefing being given by the Secretary General at this very moment.

My gratitude and appreciation also go to your predecessor, His Excellency Mr. Wilhelm Adolf Ritter von Wagner, for the excellent work he and his Bureau did for the Committee during the last session of the General Assembly.

William Scott Ritter Jr. (born July 15, 1961) was a United Nations weapons inspector in Iraq from 1991 to 1998, and later a critic of United States foreign policy in the Middle East.

A meeting was held on 2 April 1993 between the Director of the Military Industrial Corporation and members of the UNSCOM Office, members of the UNSCOM 54 inspection team, Nikita Smidovich and Scott Ritter. At the meeting, many matters were discussed and replies were given to many questions raised during the meeting.
