We would like to call upon readers of this appeal to help raise funds to support the relief organizations currently working in the affected areas, as well as for the extensive reconstruction efforts that will follow.

Some have urged focusing attention on bringing relief efforts to Burma instead of criticizing its government.

The Office looked forward to the efforts of both the Emergency Relief Coordinator and the donor community to meet those supplementary requirements.

The Government has increasingly assumed responsibility for disaster relief and humanitarian assistance.

For its part, Azerbaijan has allocated 1 million to United Nations emergency humanitarian assistance for immediate relief needs.

The entry of United Nations humanitarian personnel, has been delayed due to the government s refusal to allow aid workers into the country without first applying for visas.

The United Nations system has supported efforts to mobilize development resources for the reintegration and rehabilitation of refugees, and to advocate for the early involvement of development actors in the transition period between humanitarian relief and development activities.
