Would the many people who would ban nuclear power also prohibit air travel? After all, the parallels between the two industries are central to the question of safety.

Adapting to new circumstances and needs over time, that mandate has evolved into promoting safeguards and verification as well as safety and security and peaceful applications of nuclear science and technology.

I view the Prize as recognition of the IAEA's ceaseless efforts to ensure that nuclear energy is used exclusively for peaceful purposes and with a high level of safety and security.
