While it was gratifying to note that the collection rate of assessed contributions had improved considerably, efforts to reduce the level of outstanding contributions should be continued.

As the unpaid assessed contributions of the former Yugoslavia are not collectible from that State, the Assembly will need to decide what action should be taken.

The following is an analysis of the surpluses due to Member States, expressed in millions of euros, after application of the provision for the delay in the collection of assessed contributions.

In paragraph 17, the Board notes that progress has been made in reducing the level of unpaid contributions (see General Assembly resolution 58 253, para. 3) during the 2004 2005 biennium and encourages the Tribunal to continue its efforts to ensure timely receipt of contributions from the Member States concerned.

Mr. OMOTADE (Nigeria) said that his delegation noted the marginal increase in the collection rate for the first quarter of 2005, and hoped that the trend would improve service delivery.

In paragraph 51 of its report, the Board reiterated its recommendation that the Fund take appropriate steps to issue contribution reconciliation statements in a timely manner and further develop its proactive strategy towards the organizations for the clearing of receivables.
