In cooperation with international partners, the Myanmar Government arrested 12 alleged traffickers earlier this year on a conspiracy charge under its new statute.

With regard to smuggling, the Board intends to submit a report to the Council of Ministers on the control procedures that could help to address this matter.

46. ECA finds the provisions in the medium term plan (1992 1996) of the Commission for the promotion of regional economic integration valid and adequate. The plan, therefore, does not require any revision in that regard.

In the opinion of the Special Rapporteur, this array of international instruments requires that great emphasis should be placed on their effective implementation at the national and local levels, as well as to address transnational issues of trafficking, while ensuring complementarity between all national and international mechanisms.
