E. Trafficking in human organs

The organization HODS (Halachic Organ Donor Society) is working to increase knowledge and participation in organ donation among Jews throughout the world.

Nevertheless, such responses are likely to be increasingly challenged by the involvement of organ donation programmes in commercialized operations and the evolving threat of trafficking in human organs.

But it turns out that from organ donation they are very different.

At the 4th meeting, the Chair welcomed the new members of the CGE, namely Dr. M. Asaduzzaman (Bangladesh), Mr. Carlos Fuller (Belize), Ms. Renata Vandeputte (Belgium), Mr. Mohammad Mundicar (Kuwait), Ms. Lilian Portillo (Paraguay) and Dr. Jose Villarin (Philippines).

In addressing the Committee at its 666th meeting, on 10 January 2005, the Assistant Secretary General and Special Adviser to the Secretary General on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women welcomed members to the thirty second session.

The initial contribution of any member joining the Organization after the entry into force of this Agreement shall be assessed by the Council on the basis of the number of votes to be held by that member and the period remaining in the current financial year, but the assessment made upon other members from the current financial year shall not thereby be altered.
