Inadequate and unsafe water, poor sanitation, and unsafe hygiene practices are the main causes of diarrhoea, which results in at least 1.9 million under 5 child deaths annually.

(b) Increasing the provision of safe drinking water and development of healthy sewage systems in various regions of the Arab countries.

In Bangladesh, arsenic mitigation efforts in 45 districts led to full coverage with safe water, coupled with rigourous water quality surveillance.

Immediate priorities were keeping children alive and healthy, providing safe water and sanitation, protecting children and getting them back to school.
