The additional resources would enable it to use independent experts, rather than those offered by professional bodies, which, as was to be expected, represented the interests of their members.

The report would be prepared within available resources with the assistance of a group of governmental experts, who would be chosen on the basis of equitable geographical representation and which would be convened in 2006.

Several members of the GoE, experts included in the Roster of Independent Experts, and others, assisted in the review process.

With limited means, various activities have been undertaken in support of the CST programme of work, including the organization of the third meeting of the GoE and the intersessional meeting of the CST Bureau.

These included the Panel of Experts on Somalia, the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team on Al Qaida and the Taliban, the Panel of Experts on Liberia, the Group of Experts on the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Group of Experts on Côte d'Ivoire, and the Panel of Experts concerning the Sudan.
