Goal 3 Communication and visibility for good practices

The next two years will be critical to firmly establishing UNDP capacities and leadership in promoting gender equality and women's empowerment.

Good practices of that kind can be found in many States.

There are, of course, sound environmental and economic arguments against constructing large dams and even for decommissioning some.

In general, the levels of the MRLs are fixed on the basis of good agricultural practice (GAP).

The present scenario note is intended to assist delegates in preparing for the first meeting of the Conference of the Parties of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants by communicating initial planning and expectations for the session.

At the same time, the sound management of chemicals is essential for environmental sustainability, which, in turn, is a prerequisite for sustainable development as a whole.

Often, optimal economic policies and best practices are not attainable or even desirable.

There are three areas where transfer and effective use of environmentally sound technologies (ESTs) could be of particular importance over the next few years addressing domestic environmental problems such as urban pollution enhancing energy and material efficiency and complying with environmental requirements in export markets.

Agro ecology points to solutions, but strong support from governments is needed to scale up existing best practices.

Third session of the Expert Group on Best Available Techniques and Best Environmental Practices Relevant to Provisions of Article 5 and Annex C of the Stockholm Convention

The Parties to the Stockholm Convention had established an Expert Group on Best Available Techniques and Best Environmental Practices, which was already considering this topic.

In connection with levels of destruction and irreversible transformation, section III B of the general technical guidelines provides a provisional definition which refers to the persistent organic pollutant content of solid residues and the maximum acceptable atmospheric emissions of PCDDs and PCDFs from disposal operations, as well as examples of national legislation pertinent to atmospheric emissions and aqueous releases.

The introduction of the Prisons and Detention Centre Law on 31 May, which incorporates international human rights standards, was an important accomplishment, defining safe, secure and humane detention practices.

It was suggested that the text should comprise a summary and a list of website citations on best available techniques and best environmental practices for operating shredder plants.

This may be the case with consideration of adoption and further work on the guidelines on best available techniques and guidance on best environmental practices.

For the purposes of the present report, the guidelines on best available techniques and provisional guidance on best environmental practices are hereinafter referred to as the guidelines .

It has examined disclosure related to general meetings, the timing and means of disclosure, and disclosure on the adoption of best practices in compliance with corporate governance requirements.

The achievement of such an enabling technology diffusion setup requires technological vision and drive, focused strengthening of institutions, adoption of best practices and best available technologies and compliance with multilateral environmental agreements.

The Committee also recommends that the State party enhance its efforts to promote proper breastfeeding practices, including by complying with the International Code of Marketing, and ensure the effective implementation of breastfeeding programmes in accordance with international standards.

Indeed, a fiscal covenant is urgently needed to guarantee accountability, transparency and efficiency in the use of public revenues together with net increases in social programmes that include education, health care, nutrition and sound environmental management.

EurepGAP has replaced or assimilated various regional, product group and retailer specific standards and has integrated regulatory requirements on HACCP, MRLs and traceability.

The main aim of the seminar, which was held in Libreville from 27 to 29 July 2005, was to discuss best practice and its potential for implementation within the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).
