Preparation and use of focused summaries

The Committee shall include in its annual report a summary of the communications examined and, where appropriate a summary of the explanations and statements of the States parties concerned and of its own suggestions and recommendations.

At its fourth session, the Committee agreed that focused summaries were complementary to the process of regulatory action and would facilitate its work and approved the working paper on the preparation and use of focused summaries (UNEP FAO PIC ICRC.4 18, para.

The Committee may wish to take note of the report, and to give further necessary guidance to the GoE with respect to the various summaries, conclusions and recommendations it contains.

In accordance with established practice, those informal summaries were included for reference purposes only, and were not intended as a record of the discussion.

The following summaries have been prepared by the secretariat based on contributions received up to the time this report was finalized.

Manual evaluation can be used, but this is both time and labor intensive as it requires humans to read not only the summaries but also the source documents.

The Committee recommended that the guidance for the preparation of focused summaries should point out that the summaries were intended to supplement and not to supplant the supporting documentation.

The Committee agreed to adopt the working paper on the preparation and use of focused summaries, as amended in the discussion, and to forward it to the Conference of the Parties with the request that it encourage Parties to prepare focused summaries in accordance with that guidance.

Although the Cantonal Institutes for Work Medicine, where they exist, do collect some of the relevant data, the summary of statistics in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is only partially done, and that is under the responsibility of the Public Health Institute of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
