The resolution just adopted provides scope for the Ad Hoc Committee to report to the General Assembly upon completion of the comprehensive convention during the current session of the General Assembly, which must remain our goal.

While the management of responsibilities should be flexible, respecting the need for cross cutting consultations and cooperation among the senior management team as well as between all components of the mission, each deputy would have his or her distinct area of responsibility.

Our response is to let the General Assembly make use of its universal and democratic decision making process, the same method by which parliaments daily go about their business.

The United Nations, and the General Assembly, cannot abdicate the responsibility to secure fulfilment of the development goals and commitments that have been undertaken.
