A Guinean woman who loses her Guinean nationality through marriage may always regain that nationality if her marriage is dissolved.

The Government of Guinea expressed its understanding with regard to this letter and intention to fulfil the KP's recommendations.

Thus, children acquire the nationality of their father, but they may choose to revert to their nationality of origin when they reach the age of majority if their father is a foreigner who takes Guinean nationality, or if he is a Guinean who renounces his nationality for another.

Bearing in mind special attention of the KP to the situation in the Western Africa, the KP Chair has addressed an official letter to the Government of Guinea with an urgent request to take all necessary steps for fulfilling the recommendations of the group of experts who took part in the review visit.

To promote women's participation in national development and in their own self fulfillment, the Guinean authorities and organizations of civil society regularly sponsor public seminars and workshops for women, men, young people, religious leaders, opinion leaders, traditional communicators, etc.

In the Forces Nouvelles controlled areas, the period under review also saw reports of a clash of arms between elements of the FN and the security forces of Guinea on 12 July reportedly resulting in at least 12 dead in the FN ranks.

In that connection, my country, the Republic of Guinea  with its experience in crisis management in the West African subregion, with its desire to involve Guinean women and with the support of the network of women in the Mano River Union in the prevention and resolution of conflicts and in peacebuilding will continue to give its support to collective efforts.
