At its 624th meeting, on 24 February 2005, the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee reconvened its Working Group on the Use of Nuclear Power Sources in Outer Space under the chairmanship of Alice Caponiti (United States of America).

The Subcommittee heard the following scientific and technical presentations on the subject of space debris

Julienne Ngo Som (Cameroon) is a Chief Research Officer and currently occupies the post of Director of Scientific Information and Technological Development at the Ministry of Scientific and Technical Research in Cameroon.

It plays a key role in making recommendations to the COP on scientific and technical issues.

The coastal State shall at the same time give the names of any Commission members who have provided it with scientific and technical advice.

This points to a need for moving beyond a traditional technology transfer mentality towards a greater focus on building the endogenous scientific and technical capacity of all nations and integrating these science and technology capacity building efforts into long term economic development programmes.

A review of scientific and technical aspects of Annex II and of the conservation status of Antarctic fauna and flora was initiated.

The requested format contains an executive summary (22 copies), a main body (8 copies) and all supporting scientific and technical data (2 copies).

f In anticipation of completing its review evaluation of the multilateral group's guidelines in 2009, the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee in 2008 requests the Legal Subcommittee to add an agenda item in 2009.

First, scientific and technological achievements are the common heritage of humanity and are not the monopoly of some nations.

The Meeting was informed that the final text of the report would be considered by the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee at its forty second session.

4. Notes the need to further strengthen the scientific base of the United Nations Environment Programme, to enable it to continue to improve the quantity and quality of environmental data and statistics, including the reinforcement of the scientific capacity of developing countries, through the provision of scientific and technical assistance

If adequately resourced, the international scientific and technical community could provide training to those responsible for implementing monitoring programmes.

(c) The definition should be established in consultation with the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.

As reiterated at the third CRIC session by several participants at CRIC , the emphasis on scientific and technical information sharing should be strengthened.

The Meeting was informed that the final text of the report would be submitted to the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee at its forty second session.

The Scientific and Technical Subcommittee continued its consideration of this item in accordance with the workplan adopted by the Committee at its forty sixth session.

The Scientific and Technical Subcommittee had begun to consider an item on space system based disaster management support.
