A workman has cast an image, and the goldsmith overlays it with gold, and casts silver chains for it.

The workman melteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over with gold, and casteth silver chains.

Do they not see that We have given them a safe sanctuary , while all around them men are being despoiled ? Do they then believe what is false , and deny the bounty of God ?

Did they not observe that We have created a refuge in the Sacred Land , and people around them are snatched away ? So do they believe in falsehood and are ungrateful for the favours of Allah ?

Have they not seen that We have appointed a sanctuary secure , while all about them the people are snatched away ? What , do they believe in vanity , and do they disbelieve in God 's blessing ?

Behold they not that We have appointed an inviolable sanctuary , while men are being snatched away round about them ? in falsehood then believe they , and unto the favour of Allah will they be ingrate ?

Have they not seen that We have made ( Makkah ) a sanctuary secure , and that men are being snatched away from all around them ? Then do they believe in Batil ( falsehood polytheism , idols and all deities other than Allah ) , and deny ( become ingrate for ) the Graces of Allah ?

Do they not see that We established a Secure Sanctuary , while all around them the people are being carried away ? Do they believe in falsehood , and reject the blessings of God ?

Do they not see that We have given them a sanctuary of safety whereas people around them are being snatched away ? So , do they believe in falsehood and ungratefully deny Allah 's bounties ?

Have they not seen that We have appointed a sanctuary immune ( from violence ) , while mankind are ravaged all around them ? Do they then believe in falsehood and disbelieve in the bounty of Allah ?

Have they not seen that We have appointed a safe sanctuary , while the people are despoiled all around them ? Would they then believe in falsehood and be ungrateful toward the blessing of Allah ?

Do they not see how We appointed a safe Sanctuary while all around them people are snatched away ? Would they believe in falsehood and do they disbelieve in the favor of Allah !

Have they not seen that We made Makkah a safe sanctuary , while people are being taken away all around them ? Then in falsehood do they believe , and in the favor of Allah they disbelieve ?

Have the ( pagans ) not seen that We have made the holy precinct a safe place while all the people around are suffering terror . Do they believe in falsehood and disbelieve in God 's bounties ?

Do they not see that We have made a sacred territory secure , while men are carried off by force from around them ? Will they still believe in the falsehood and disbelieve in the favour of Allah ?

Have they not seen how We have granted them a safe sanctuary , though all around them people are snatched away ? Would they still believe in falsehood , and deny the favour of God ?

Do they not then see that We have made a sanctuary secure , and that men are being snatched away from all around them ? Then , do they believe in that which is vain , and reject the Grace of Allah ?

Leaving God they pray to those who cannot harm or profit them . That is the limit of going astray .

They worship such , beside Allah , which neither harms them nor benefits them this only is the extreme error .

He calls , apart from God , upon that which hurts him not , and which neither profits him anything that is indeed the far error .

He calleth upon that , beside Allah , which can neither hurt him nor profit him ! that ! it is a straying far off .

He calls besides Allah unto that which hurts him not , nor profits him . That is a straying far away .

He invokes , instead of God , what can neither harm him nor benefit him . That is the far straying .

He invokes , instead of Allah , those who can neither harm nor benefit him . That indeed is straying far away .

He calleth , beside Allah , unto that which hurteth him not nor benefiteth him . That is the far error .

He invokes besides Allah that which can bring him neither benefit nor harm . That is extreme error .

He calls to other than Allah , to that which neither hurts him , nor benefits him that is indeed far error .

He invokes instead of Allah that which neither harms him nor benefits him . That is what is the extreme error .

They worship things instead of God which can neither harm them nor benefit them . This is indeed to stray far away from the right path .

He calls besides Allah upon that which does not harm him and that which does not profit him , that is the great straying .

He calls on , instead of God , something that can neither harm him , nor benefit him . That is indeed straying far away

They call on such deities , besides Allah , as can neither hurt nor profit them that is straying far indeed ( from the Way ) !

It was done by that chief of theirs . Ask him in case they can speak .

Said he , Rather , their chief may have done it so question them , if they can speak .

He said , ' No it was this great one of them that did it . Question them if they are able to speak ! '

He said rather he hath wrought it this big one of them so question them , if they ever speak .

Ibrahim ( Abraham ) said Nay , this one , the biggest of them ( idols ) did it . Ask them , if they can speak !

He said , But it was this biggest of them that did it . Ask them , if they can speak .

He answered Rather it was this supreme one who has done it . So ask them , if they can speak .

He said But this , their chief hath done it . So question them , if they can speak .

He said , No , it was this biggest one of them who did it ! Ask them , if they can speak .

' It was their great one amongst them that did it . Ask them , if they are able to speak '

He said , Rather , this the largest of them did it , so ask them , if they should be able to speak .

He replied , I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones . Ask them if they are able to speak .

He said Surely ( some doer ) has done it the chief of them is this , therefore ask them , if they can speak .
