UNODC internal observations are shared with OIOS before audit visits to UNODC field offices are undertaken

The Department of Peacekeeping Operations was supporting numerous simultaneous audits and reviews of mission headquarters and field missions by United Nations oversight bodies.

OIOS conducted a comparative review of the desk function the key organizational structure in UNHCR ensuring liaison between field operations and headquarters. The desk is involved in most of UNHCR's internal mechanisms and processes.

OIOS continued its review of the level of compliance of UNHCR field offices with UNHCR's security policy, with the aim of bringing any areas of concern to the attention of UNHCR senior management.

In addition, the management instructions assist in monitoring compliance with the most common observations made by audit teams of the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) visiting UNODC field offices.

As a focus area for field audits OIOS reviewed the Medical Insurance Plan (MIP), an area already identified by UNHCR as high risk.

The field offices have been closed the Commission's staff contracts have been terminated and its assets in the field have, for the time being, been placed in the custody of the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea.
