So the coefficient of friction tells us

I'll do a video on why sometimes a coefficient of static friction can be different than the coefficient of kinetic friction

The force of friction here completely offsetting the force of gravity parallel to the surface is 49 N

(There is also the force of friction.)

So we can say this generally coefficient of kinetic friction is less than or equal to the coefficient of static friction

So this is the force that really overcome friction and this over here will be equal to the force of friction

There is some friction between these two

you could figure out this coefficient of kinetic friction

And remember coefficient of friction are unitless

We call it the coefficient of static friction because this deals with the ratio of the force of friction relative to the normal force

You never see a situation where the coefficient of static friction is lower than the coefficient of kinetic friction but you do see situations where the coefficient of kinetic friction is lower than the coefficient of static friction that once something is moving for some reason we'll theorize why that might be for some reason friction has a little less potent than when something is stationary

We call this the coefficient of static friction

And as you can imagine, this is the force of friction

This right over here is the force of friction

So the coefficient of kinetic friction, we'll write it as the Greek letter mu with a little k here for kinetic where it's a kind of moving friction

But we're going to focus on the region labeled red here and it's the interface between the dynamic scaffolding and the chromosomes.

My pushing is completely balanced by the force of friction.

So what is the force of friction in this case?

And friction really comes from an atomic level

The better the process, the less the friction.

And once it's moving, the coefficient of kinetic friction starts to matter

Now all of a sudden, the coefficient of kinetic friction comes to play

Maybe if my force of pushing were larger than the force of friction, or the force of friction were larger than my force of pushing.

I mentioned in the last several videos that the coefficient of kinetic friction tends to be less sometimes little bit roughly equal to the coefficient of static friction but this might lead you to at least a question that I have had in my mind and I still have to some degree that why is the coefficient of kinetic friction lower or why can it be lower?

And for some materials, they might not be that different but for other materials, the kinetic friction can be lower than static friction

It's not this cut and dry thing so fun thing to think about what's happening in the atomic level but this is the general intuition of why the coefficient of static friction is higher than the coefficient of kinetic friction

So that right over there is the force of friction.

I can interact with the people who have devoted their entire lives to it.

But anyway we are talking about friction here

So it's actually the force of friction in this example

And so you have, in this situation, the force of friction is going to be

And minimizing friction turns out to be the decisive variable.

So the force of fiction must be 49.5 N

And in either situation the force of friction is going against your motion

I guess the force just to overcome the force of friction, just kind of get right over that the most friction that can be applied by kind of the abrasiveness of the 2 things when the object is stationary
