UNOCI has prepared a training programme for corrections officers and submitted it to the Ivorian authorities for approval.

UNMIL continued to assist the Bureau of Corrections of the Ministry of Justice to improve conditions at correctional institutions.

The Committee recommends that the State party take all necessary measures to prevent acts of violence in homes for re education and social care institutions.

The United States of America has donated 600,000 to support the refurbishment of correctional institutions, including sanitation facilities and basic security equipment.

Staff of correctional institutions were included in training and awareness raising activities and a youth friendly referral system for IDUs to medical services was established in pilot areas of the Russian Federation.

The Committee is deeply concerned about cases of violence among children and young adults placed in homes for re education and other institutions and about cases of violence and bullying among children and young adults in social care institutions.

In addition to its responsibility for departments such as education, social development, sports, youth and culture and correctional services, the Ministry is now charged with regulating and monitoring public and private health sectors, including the Health Authority of Anguilla.

The Mission's police strength stood at 1,088 out of the authorized total of 1,115, including 478 personnel in four formed police units and 18 corrections officers (see annex).

It consolidated provisions of the Young Offenders (British Columbia) Act and youth provisions of the Correction Act into a comprehensive provincial statute written specifically for youth. It is consistent with the federal Youth Criminal Justice Act and is up to date with current practice.

However, in some areas the corrections system continues to be confronted by many problems, relating to access to safe drinking water, adequate health care facilities and medication, availability of rehabilitation programmes, overcrowding, and the high number of detainees without access to legal counsel.

The Penitentiary and Prison Code was also modified by decree No. 2636 of 2004, as it unduly awarded judicial police powers to the directors general, regional directors and prison directors of the Instituto Nacional Penitenciario y Carcelario (INPEC) (the National Institute of Prisons and Penitentiaries) to investigate crimes committed within the prisons.

Treatment Programme ΕΝ DRASI . It is the first programme against addiction in the context of the Greek correctional system at its core lies the Therapeutic Community of the Women's Prison of Korydallos that goes by the same name, as well as the Reception Centre for the Released, in the centre of Athens. Moreover, it implements programmes of self assistance in several prisons in Attica.
