I am writing for the sake of history, to record the story of the birth of free Egypt

I should like to record our appreciation to those countries for their support in this respect.

I also wish to publicly place on record my country's support for Spain's Alliance of Civilizations initiative.

In this context, I would like to put on record New Zealand's strong support for the proposal of a Peacebuilding Commission.

I would like to put on record my appreciation for his leadership of UNMISET over the past year.

I feel that I can safely report that the level of engagement in the CD is heightening.

I would also like to place on record my appreciation to my Deputy Special Representative, Atul Khare, who has played a key role in ensuring the success of the mission.

I respectfully disagree with the majority's finding on the article 3 issues.

However, allow me to list some key points that I think have emerged from this important debate.

Mr. Rock (Canada) I first want to record Canada's sorrow at the death of His Holiness Pope John Paul II.

Mr. AN (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) I want to make two points, the first point concerning the nuclear issue and the participation over the nuclear issue.

I would therefore like to place on record my country's concern at our inability to reach an agreement on a programme of work over the last eight years.

I would also like to record my deep appreciation to the people of Timor Leste, who continue to forge ahead on their path towards peace, prosperity and development under their political leadership.

I would like to place on record our appreciation to the Government of the Republic of Gabon for its strong collaboration with the Tribunal in the apprehension and transfer of this fugitive.

In that connection, I wish to place on record that it is my delegation's understanding that the current choice of a sub item will not create a precedent that will prevent us from addressing a greater number of items in future, so long as we can ensure their efficient consideration.

In connection with draft resolution A C.1 60 L.56, entitled Implementation of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Anti personnel Mines and on Their Destruction', I wish to put on record the following statement of financial implications on behalf of the Secretary General.

Allow me here to pay tribute to the contents of the report of the Secretary General, which adopted an integrated, comprehensive approach to the concerns of youth and the challenges facing them. The report also monitored the efforts made nationally and internationally with a view to achieving such objectives.

In connection with draft resolution A C.1 60 L.33 Rev.1, entitled Convention on the Prohibition of the development, Production and Stockpiling of Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxin Weapons and on Their Destruction , I wish, on behalf of the Secretary General, to put on record the following statement of financial implications.

I should like simply to place on record the fact that Croatia has co sponsored the draft resolution contained in document A C.1 60 L.34 Rev.1, entitled Addressing the negative humanitarian and development impact of the illicit manufacture, transfer and circulation of small arms and light weapons and their excessive accumulation .

In connection with draft resolution A C.1 60 L.37 Rev.1, entitled Assistance to States for curbing the illicit traffic in small arms and light weapons and collecting them , I wish to put on record the following statement of financial implications on behalf of the Secretary General.

In conclusion, I wish to record here and I will record it again next month, when the mandate ends on behalf of my Government and the people of Papua New Guinea our deep appreciation for the contribution of the United Nations in ensuring that the peace process was maintained and the weapons disposal process completed before the election commenced on 20 May 2005.

While there has not been a breach of the ceasefire that has been in effect since 6 September 1991, and there is no indication that the leadership of either party intends to initiate hostilities, I should like to register my concern at the scale of the violations of military agreement No. 1, outlined in paragraph 7 above.
