31 May marks the second anniversary of Krakow Initiative Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI).

Poland also joined the Proliferation Security initiative, also known as the Krakow initiative, launched in May 2003, and supported the Interdiction Principles for the initiative adopted in London in October 2003.

Everywhere from London to Rome to Paris, Polish artisans are contributing decisively to the beautification of Europe, using the skills they used in the past to build cities like Krakow and St. Petersburg.

Poland had also played an active part in two new international initiatives the Global Partnership of the Group of Eight and the Proliferation Security Initiative, also known as the Krakow Initiative of 2003.

The Polish Government hosted field exercises for participants in the initiative in April 2004 in Wroclaw, and organized the first anniversary meeting on the initiative in Krakow on 31 May and 1 June 2004.

The Proliferation Security Initiative, known as the Krakow Initiative, and the Global Partnership against the Spread of Weapons of Mass Destruction are two excellent examples of our commitment to the goal of strengthening the disarmament machinery.

I have the honour to forward herewith the text of the Statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, dated 29 May 2005, concerning the Second Anniversary of Proliferation Security Initiative, also known as Krakow Initiative.

To date, under the PSI, Poland has organized an information exchange meeting for all Central and East European countries, a ground exercise in Wroclaw, and the Anniversary Meeting in Krakow for more than sixty countries to mark the Initiative's first anniversary.

In addition, we support and encourage States to participate in the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Materials the Proliferation Security Initiative the Krakow Initiative the Global Threat Reduction Initiative and to continue to support the work of the G 8 Global Partnership.

A prime example is the Proliferation Security Initiative, which President Bush launched two years ago in Krakow, Poland, in order to strengthen our collective capacity to stop shipments of weapons of mass destruction, their delivery systems, or related materials to or from States or non State actors of proliferation concern.
