FOREWORD 1. The United Nations is facing new demands and challenges.

In the foreword to the National Gender Policy, the President of the Republic of Namibia, H.E. Dr. Sam Nujoma said the following

Nevertheless, participation in the Register could and should be improved, as was also observed by the Secretary General in his foreword to the 1994 report of the group of governmental experts.

COMMITTEE OF THE RED CROSS A. Foreword 4. The present report, submitted to the General Assembly at its forty eighth session, follows on a report prepared by ICRC in 1992 and examined by the General Assembly at its forty seventh session (A 47 328).

In my foreword to the previous annual overview report of the Administrative Committee on Coordination (ACC) (E 1992 11 Add.2), I referred to the profound changes taking place in international relations and to the far reaching implications which those changes carried for the United Nations system.

Foreword 1. The accounting standards agreed for application in organizations of the United Nations system are based to a large extent on relevant International Accounting Standards promulgated by the International Accounting Standards Committee, to which appreciation is expressed for its permission to draw upon its texts, as listed in the appendix.
