Recent discussions related to evidence of a fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from the use of genetic resources or suggesting ways forward on biopiracy related issues.

In the case study, Roberto Espinoza suggests that a more appropriate strategy would be first to halt biopiracy, and then to develop a sui generis regime based on the principles of interculturality, sustainability and social equity.

There is concern that the Government of Peru does not have the capacity to guarantee the security of this information and there have already been several cases of biopiracy in Peru which the Government has done little to address.
