The Assistant Secretary General and Special Adviser to the Secretary General on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women and the Director of the Division for the Advancement of Women addressed the Committee at its 684th meeting.

The Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women and the Director and staff of the Division for the Advancement of Women have met with the Special Rapporteur to consult on progress in the preparations of the study.

Previous positions include Inspector General, Joint National Custom Inspector, National Tax Compliance Fiduciary Manager, Development Finance Corporation (COPFIDE) and adviser, Office of the Vice Minister of the Economy.

Those aspects are regularly addressed by the Special Adviser, the Director and staff of the Division in meetings with, and briefings for, representatives of Member States, entities of the United Nations system and civil society organizations in training workshops and other outreach activities.

The Special Adviser to the Secretary General on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women and the Director of the Division for the Advancement of Women continued their efforts to encourage universal ratification of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, acceptance of the Optional Protocol to the Convention and amendment to article 20, paragraph 1 of the Convention.

The Executive Board also has eight ex officio members from the United Nations system, including the Under Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs, the Director of INSTRAW, a representative from the host country and one representative from each of the five regional commissions.

Although rarely seen or heard, Kim Kyong hui, born on May 30, 1946 to Kim Il sung and his first wife Kim Jong suk, has served in a range of key Workers Party positions, including deputy director of the International Department and director of the Light Industry Department.

It believes that a woman has the right to become president of a country, a religious leader, a CEO, a captain of aircraft and transatlantic ships she has the right to become a doctor, an engineer, a teacher, and thus she can actively act in all ranks of society.
