(f) Intensifying training and research initiatives or programmes to strengthen the capacities of Governments to manage the epidemic

The Department of Peacekeeping Operations is encouraging individual United Nations volunteers to participate in its training, learning and capacity building initiatives.

In 2004, UNOPS spent 201,554 for training on the change management initiatives however, as at 13 May 2005, the UNOPS training budget for 2005 reflected a total allocation of 85,670.

Mr. Blake (Jamaica), speaking on behalf of the Group of 77 and China, noted that UNITAR had recorded a significant increase in the number of training initiatives undertaken.
