UNAMSIL is mandated to help the Security Council achieve an overall objective, namely, to consolidate peace and stability in Sierra Leone.

The Sierra Leone police are currently deployed throughout Sierra Leone 74 police stations and 112 police posts have been established across the country.

The same pattern applies to Sierra Leone, where the 2004 elections were supported by an electoral team that was part of the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL).

In particular, the Sierra Leone armed forces and police have both continued to build up their capacities to ensure effective responsibility for the security of the country.

The founders of the Court, the Government of Sierra Leone and the United Nations, deliberately sharpened the focus of the Court by limiting its mandate to those persons who bear the greatest responsibility for serious violations of international humanitarian law and Sierra Leonean law committed in the territory of Sierra Leone in the relevant period.

In October, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Sierra Leone, whose operations were fully supported by OHCHR, submitted its report to the President of Sierra Leone.

UNAMSIL has continued to provide assistance to the Government of Sierra Leone in resolving chiefdom disputes over boundaries and other issues.
