As regards conference servicing requirements, a review of overall conference serving requirements has been carried out to identify any possible additional absorption capacity.

3. Welcomes the steps taken by those bodies that have adjusted their programmes of work in order to achieve the optimum utilization of conference servicing resources, and requests the Committee on Conferences to continue consultations with the secretariats and bureaux of bodies that underutilize their conference servicing resources

It is revolutionary in that the Department has undergone a transformation from conference services to conference management and is gradually moving towards integrated global management.

2.13 In general, and subject to availability of resources, FAO will provide conference services for meetings organized in Rome, and UNEP will provide conference services for meetings organized in Geneva.

81. Requests the Secretary General to ensure that conference services are managed in an integrated manner throughout all duty stations in the Organization

The Executive Secretary and the Deputy Executive Secretaries will constitute a core strategy group that will provide a more strategic approach to the secretariat's work in support of the Parties based on guidance provided by the COP and the COP MOP.

It is also understood that everything possible will be done to ensure the most efficient use of conference services.

IS puts in place, at the secretariat and at conferences and workshops, Internet access and computer networks with appropriate security measures to safeguard communication and data.

Requests the Secretary General to conduct systematic follow up regarding the utilization of conference services by those bodies that consistently underutilize their conference servicing resources over a longer period of time in order to identify the underlying causes for their being unable to reach the benchmark

Any additional resources as may be necessary for conference servicing of the Peacebuilding Commission should be reported in the first performance report.

COPSUBLA programme has monitored the follow up to decisions made by the COP and its subsidiary bodies and provided advice and analysis on relevant issues, including legal issues, relating to the work of the secretariat. It has prepared legal analyses and reports on various matters, including arbitration and conciliation procedures, and provided legal advice on the interpretation and application of the UNCCD and the rules of procedure of the COP.

9. Emphasizes the importance of providing adequate conference servicing resources to all United Nations conference centres, for the effective and efficient discharge of their mandates

It is based on the assumption that the annual calendar of meetings of Convention bodies will include two sessional periods of two weeks each (one of which would be a COP and COP MOP hosted by a government), and uses standard cost figures employed by UNOG for conference services.

The scheduled date for the completion of the draft compendium is early 2006. It will then be sent to conference managers at all four duty stations for validation before being finalized and implemented across the board.

With regard to the implementation of paragraph 4 of the draft resolution, it is understood that the related requirements for conference services would be provided from within the entitlements of the General Assembly, which are incorporated in the calendar of conferences for the current and the next bienniums.

14. Requests the Secretary General to continue to include in future reports the utilization rates of interpretation services and conference facilities at all duty stations

As the number of complaints processed under a new optional protocol grows, provision of the necessary conference services and editing and translation services will be necessary.

Hence, no additional resources would be required for the high level meeting, as conference services are provided for meetings of the Assembly throughout the year.

Any savings achieved from a possible streamlining of documentation requirements, particularly under conference services, should be reflected in the performance report.
