Let us prove that our common efforts in the World Programme of Action for Youth were not in vain.

In line with the spirit of Monterrey, we agree that there is a need to focus our joint efforts on finding effective, realistic and balanced development financing mechanisms.

We must intensify our common efforts to deal with terrorism and move quickly to conclude a comprehensive convention on international terrorism.

Studying the successes gives us the knowledge and confidence to step up our shared efforts to solve today s great global challenges.

An early decision will be a great leap forward in our common effort to make progress on the comprehensive United Nations reform agenda.

Let me also express my hope that our common efforts will bring tangible results in the work of the CD in this session.

It has begun to play an important role in our common efforts to establish the rule of law, to promote and encourage respect for human rights and to restore and maintain international peace and security.

In conclusion, I would like to note that only by pooling our common efforts and being aware of the role and responsibility of every country will we ensure successful implementation of the Millennium Development Goals and resolve the diverse tasks facing Member States.

So far, our efforts have not been sufficient.

South Africa continues to believe that the implementation of the Programme of Action at the respective national levels is imperative if we are to succeed in our combined efforts to prevent, combat and eradicate this scourge in all its aspects at the regional and global levels.

Building upon the progress already made, we should redouble our common efforts to achieve a more secure and orderly world in which every human being is respected and protected under the rule of law.

Let me also take this opportunity to note in this context the European Marine Strategy, adopted by the European Commission last month, which represents a significant contribution to our joint efforts to ensure the sustainable use of the world's oceans.

But it needs to continue to be a focus of our efforts in the future.

All our efforts to foster development could then be brought to naught.

However, notwithstanding our efforts, poverty remains endemic in Africa.

We have come a long way since the 1990s in our efforts to reform the Organization.

We will continue our efforts, with special focus on those areas.

Can all this be done? The time is ripe to renew and redouble our efforts.

All those factors bring home to us the need to redouble our efforts to reach the Millennium Development Goals.

Such abuse undermines our peace efforts and the credibility of the United Nations.

Our endeavours to resolve those conflicts and address their root causes will fail if we do not empower women.

Let us join our efforts to maintain a peaceful and serene outer space, free of weapons and warfare.
