Article 203 of the Penal Code defines the offence of trafficking in persons as the recruitment or hiring of individuals, either with their consent or by means of threats, enticement, deceit or any other similar ploy, for the purpose of prostitution within or outside the Republic or the introduction of individuals into the country for the purpose of prostitution.
