Cottage pie or shepherd's pie is a meat pie with a crust of mashed potato.

In Portugal a similar dish is called Empadão , with two layers of mashed potatoes and a layer of minced beef in between.

In China and other east Asian countries, homemade baby food remains common, and babies are started on rice porridge called xifan, then move on to mashed fruits, soft vegetables, tofu and fish.
