Brilliantly red maples

Nikko is known for its splendid fall colors, especially the vibrant reds of the Japanese maple (Acer palmatum).

Sweeteners, such as brown sugar, honey, or maple syrup, are often added either by the manufacturer, during cooking, or before eating.

This molecule is thought to be responsible for the mysterious maple syrup smell that has occasionally wafted over Manhattan since 2005.
