Our second concern relates to the possibility of single candidatures from a given region.

Having considered the candidacies presented by Member States in this regard

Nominations are sent from around the world and evaluated by a panel of expert judges.

The election shall take place at the session of the Council following the deadline for the submission of nominations for the vacant seat.

On 11 May, the Committee considered a report by the Director General on candidatures for the appointment of an External Auditor (PBC.21 5 and Add.1 and 2) and a note by the Secretariat on candidatures for the appointment of an External Auditor (PBC.21 CRP.2).

The Secretary General further requested that nominations should be received no later than 17 January 2005.

In this regard, since the initiation of deliberations on Security Council reform more than a decade ago, Indonesia has always maintained that it is important to establish clear and objective criteria when determining candidacies for membership.

The Chairman said he hoped that candidates for the remaining posts of Chairman of the Credentials Committee, Vice Chairmen of the Main Committees and the Drafting Committee and Vice Presidents of the Conference would soon be put forward.
